Parent Email Sharing with School Councils – PIAC Motion

The Board decided:
That the Director present a report on the feasibility and legal implications of the following recommendation from the Parent Involvement Community Advisory Committee, and that every best effort be made to allow for a September 2019 implementation:

That school registration forms include a checkbox to allow parents to consent to the sharing of their email with the school’s School Council to facilitate communication and increased engagement by the School Councils with the school community. PIAC requests that this be completed to be included in the 2019 Fall welcome packages to parents.

Effective Fall 2020:
​In response to this motion to connect School Councils directly with their parent community by sharing parent emails, the TDSB will give Councils access to School Messenger. Council Chair(s) can then send broadcast communications to parents/guardians using the same database that Principals use to contact the school community. Council Chairs will have access to School Messenger through their TDSB School Council email account.
