TDSB Policy and Program Consultations

PIAC Policy Consultations

COVID-19 and Policy Consultation

Please note that the current Policy Development and Management Process as described here has been modified to reflect limitations created in implementing the TDSB’s COVID-19 pandemic response. A new Virtual Consultations Procedure (PR731) outlines how consultations will be managed in the virtual environment.

Modifications to the process include changes to the timeline for policies related to the Secondary Program Review, including the revised Optional Attendance Policy and the new Specialized Schools and Programs Policy. Consultations were closed and the draft revisions for the Optional Attendance Policy were presented to the Governance and Policy Committee in April 2020, but the related Specialized Schools and Program Policy will continue its consultation phase into Spring 2021. Comments or questions regarding the Review or related policies may be shared via email, secondaryreview@tdsb.on.ca. Public consultation on the Specialized Schools and Programs Policy will be posted on the TDSB Policy Consultations webpage.

The Parent and Community Involvement Policy (P023) will also undergo a public consultation phase in Spring 2021. The public is encouraged to take the survey at tdsbengage.ca and watch this webpage for updates on consultation opportunities.

Understanding Policy Consultation at the TDSB

The TDSB has adopted a Policy Framework (P001) and a Policy Development and Management Process (PR501) that guides policy creation and review. An illustration of this process can be found here.

Changes to TDSB policies and procedures have a significant impact on student success, School Council operations, and parent/caregiver engagement. PIAC needs input from the TDSB parent/caregiver community in order to make informed recommendations to the Board.

The TDSB posts all active public consultations on its Policy Consultations page.  These policies have reached Phase 4: External Consultation in the development process and are posted for public comment for a minimum of 45 calendar days. Staff also hold consultations with Advisory Committees, including PIAC, and other relevant groups as needed. Once Phase 4 is closed, individuals may still offer feedback directly by addressing the Trustee’s Governance and Policy Committee via the Delegation Process.

Please contact the Consultations Working Group for more information, to share your feedback, or to get involved. You can reach PIAC through the email info@torontopiac.com.
